Melanoma Has Been Removed

Tuesday was the big day. I had an in office surgery with local anesthetic to remove the mole that was a couple of inches below my left collar bone. A biopsy had been done two weeks prior and it came back as early melanoma. This meant that the mole needed to be removed, and sooner rather than later because I was already in the third trimester.

The worst part was the injections to get me numb; I was barely able to keep myself from cursing at my doctor, and kept editing my language half way through saying it. Needless to say my "Son-of-a...Gun" and "SH.....oot" had him chuckling. It was a little more involved and intense that I had been prepared for, I think part of that was the location of the mole itself, but they were great, and I made it through. Happy once it was over, and doing fine because I was completely numb. (which by the way, wore off at midnight, and made for a difficult night)

It wasn't until Tuesday evening when Ronnie got home and we realized that there was some blood coming through the gauze that I saw the incision for the first time. The blood coming through was normal, and the incision and stitches looked great. But I pulled the top part of the gauze down we couldn't see the end of the incision, so up came the other half an OH MY....I have a 3 inch incision!! As Ronnie said, You are Bad Ass! Look at that thing! So yes, I am bad ass and will have to come up with a good story as to how it happened. You know, like don't try and cut off a three year old in line for The Tea Cups and Disneyland...it gets ugly.

Good news came today though, the pathologist report came back and there was a clean margin of tissue all around the removed portion, and the melanoma didn't go deep enough to require lymph-node removal. So now all I have to do is get the stitches out and heal. However, with the growing boobs of the third trimester, I've been instructed to wear a bra all the time to keep the weight from pulling on the incision.

But good news to get before a long holiday weekend. It just brought relief to know that this thing is over. Here's a picture of my war wound:
