Spring Cleaning

So even though Spring Cleaning has been in full swing around here for the past couple of weeks, my goal this week was to tackle the closet. I knew that there were things that needed to go to Goodwill, and I figured I might as well try and get it done now. Just to make room for the new clothes that will need to find a space to fit.

I am proud to say that I have two nice sized piles to go to Goodwill. I am not so proud to say that I also thought it would be a good idea to start weeding out the clothes that don’t fit and to put them into a “pre-pregnancy” storage bin to bring out again next year. Oh how depressing! Some things I found still work, and will for quite a few more weeks….other things wouldn’t even make it over my hips and butt. Sigh….

But I went at the closet with gusto, trying on almost everything I own and determining:

a) Can I still wear this, or will I be able to continue to wear it with my Bella Band (which is like a tube top for your hips so that you can wear pants undone and no one can tell)

b) Even if I can wear it still, does it even look good with my changing proportions? Some skirts aren’t meant to be hiked up to your boobs so that you can zip them up! Stored those away.

c) Will I ever wear this again anyway….that pile went to Goodwill

d) If it’s a good piece of clothing but I don’t know what to do…keep it and store it away, or I might regret in a year that I got rid of it.

I think I emptied about 1/3 of my closet in 45 minutes. I’m sure there are t-shirts that still need to go away, but they are t-shirts…Ronnie and Marley don’t judge if they are plastered to my body too tight because I haven’t gone shopping for many larger tops. So some clothes are strictly “around the house” clothes, and others people can see me in public in. Through most of it I had a good attitude, there were just the few surprises where I thought something would work, and realized there was no chance it was going on my body in any respectable fashion.

So we will be off to Target or Old Navy soon to get a few items that will work with the growing belly; clothes that I can wear now, and then again after the baby is born. Thank goodness for my friend Ashley, whose little boy Alex is 8 months old. After a BBQ on Sunday she sent me home with a tote full of her maternity clothes. Many won’t work until July or August, but it will save me from another closet cleanout when the time comes.

So as you all begin doing your Spring Cleaning, just be grateful that you aren’t forced to try on every piece of clothing you own. If you choose to do so, then that is your own fault for putting yourself through the misery.

  1. Good, I WON'T try on everything I own! You know me and my limited wardrobe. Excuse to go shopping!!!!!
